Fun with Food - Character Bento Boxes

Where The Wild Things Are bento box

Check this out...this girl has a blog where she posts photos of her bento boxes (lunch boxes) that are made into characters. So fun and cute! I would totally be into cooking if I could play with my food like this! I'm sure Jeff would just love that! ha!

Anytime Fitness

My fellow graphic designer friend Neal, who works for an advertising and marketing firm C.A.K. + Associates, asked me at the beginning of the Summer (notice the green grass in the ad) if I could be a model for a mailer piece they were doing for their client Anytime Fitness. I hesitated somewhat, feeling a little self conscious about the idea of 'modeling', but thanks to Neal's expertise in Photoshop, I think the photo turned out pretty nice. And, I have to say it was a fun way to spend a morning - out at Town Lake, ahem Lady Bird Lake, sitting on a treadmill and not actually having to workout.

Kids Incorporated

Kids Incorporated K..I..D..S! I just had a flashback to my childhood. Remember this show? I remember thinking how cheesy it was even as a kid, but I still was enamored by it. And it's amazing how the 80's clothes are coming back again. I just hope the poofy hair doesn't.

I didn't realize that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Fergie from the Black-Eyed Peas were in Kids Incorporated. Crazy.

My Parents' 9th Anniversary

I mustn't forget to mention my most cherished couple, my mom and step-dad, and that they celebrated their anniversary a few days ago as well. They celebrated their nine year anniversary on Thursday, July 30th. Happy anniversary to the most loving couple I know. Love you!

Our 6th Anniversary

Jeff and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary on Saturday. I can't believe we've been married six years, and most of them have been here in Austin. If we hadn't moved to Austin we wouldn't have grown together and become who we are as a couple today. I'm so thankful to have Jeff in my life and to have shared so many moments with him, here and anywhere.

We opted for the classic date to celebrate our anniversary, dinner and a movie, and it was perfect!

A little while back I found a half off gift certificate online for this local restaurant Blue Star Cafeteria, and we decided to give it a try for our anniversary. Unfortunately, I was still recovering from the night prior full of unfiltered Belgium beers, which was still taking a toll on my stomach. So, I chose the one type of food I can almost always eat, Italian, and got the lasagna marinara. It was amazing, and I'm still eating my leftovers three days later because the portion size was huge! Amazingly, it helped my tummy and of course then had to try out their peach cobbler. It was to die for! Jeff had a really healthy but wonderfully delicious mixed veggie plate. The veggies were all local and seasonal and were cooked so that they still held their integrity, accompanied by a yummy risotto. We will be back again.

Then, kinda' on a whim, we decided we'd check to see if we could get into a showing of Funny People, which just came out the night before. Lucky for us, we timed it just right and arrived at the theater a half an hour prior to the start time. I didn't know much about the movie before seeing it, just that it was about comedians and starred Adam Sandler and a bunch of other great actors. I later realized that it was more of a drama than a comedy, but the perfect mixture of both. Perhaps it helped not having any expectations, but it was a good movie regardless. The entire cast did a wonderful job, but the writing was what made it. You know a movie's good when you're still thinking about it days later. I haven't quite moved on from it yet.

Oh, and thanks to Gregg for giving Jeff the wonderful experience of golfing at Barton Creek earlier in the day. He was just beside himself when he came home, which put him in the best mood for our date. ;)
